The new release of Planzone and the resource load graph

As a project manager, you have often asked how to allocate your resources on multiple projects.

The resource load is a figure that is not shown in previoius versions of Planzone.

Now, the multi-project resource usage view introduces the resource load graph. The resource load is an indicator which tells what percentage of a resource's available time is allocated.  If this is greater than 100%, it means that the resource is overloaded.  A low  number would mean that the resource is under-utilized.

We use the number of hours a resource is allocated on an activity and the number of hours the resource is available during the duration of the activity to compute the resource load.  In the new resource usage timeline view, this indicator is presented as a graph that shows each resource's load across time, for each activity where he is allocated, and summarized at the project level and again at the resource level.

This is useful for a Planzone administrator or a project administrator who must manage the allocation time of each resource. The administrator can see directly from this view when a resource is overloaded or not. Based on this, he can decrease the allocation time on an activity and perhaps increase other resource allocations to balance the load.

Some of our future plans include giving you even more control over allocations without leaving this view. In particular, we will make it possible to:

  • Directly modify the start and finish date of an allocation.
  • Delete an allocation.
